God Is

Text: Gen. 1:1-3
Introduction: Who is God? Can I get to know Him? Is He a figment of someones imagination? Today I want to begin a three part series called “Defenders of our Faith.” It is important to the believer to know what he believes about God. In order to do that, the biblical record is our most valid source of information on the subject of who is God? How did God come to be? Should I believe God exist? Three things that i would like to share with you today about one’s belief in God.
“Acknowledgment of His Existence”
To believe in God is to possess confidence in Him. One’s belief must include an acknowledgment of His existence. Even though the existence of God cannot be proved to satisfy our own human egos, the Bible says God is and “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Looking for proof outside of the contents of whats written in the Word of God will produce nothing but emptiness. The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today. To believe in God is necessary to having faith. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, because anyone who comes to God must believe that God exists and He rewards those who earnestly seeks Him. Genuine belief in God is an indication that you know who He really is. You trust Him, your faith is in Him and not some other deity. There are many who believe God exist, they really want to serve Him, but the god they worship is one of their own design. You can’t make God who you want Him to be, He is who He is! You can’t pick and choose the aspects of God that you find agreeable to you and turn from the others that don’t agree with your spirit. We are left to accept scripture which does not tell us how God came into existence it just start off saying “In the Beginning God” so however He came to be, He is! There is God and the bible says He was there in the beginning. The creation in itself speaks to the existence of God.
“Commitment and a change of lifestyle”
Belief in God requires a commitment and a change of lifestyle that allows God through His Spirit to order our steps in His Word. To believe that God exist and do nothing in the light of His righteousness is not spiritually healthy for believers. We must conform to His standards on we are no better off then the demons, even they believed. We must act upon what we believe to be true and consistent with the teaching of God’s Word. It is more than a belief, it is a commitment to go through with what you believe is of God. It is a personal decision, no coercion here. If you want to be forgiven by God and come into a relationship with him, you can do so right now by asking him to forgive you and come into your life. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door [of your heart] and knock. He who hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him [or her] God does not force us to believe in him, though he could. Instead, he has provided sufficient proof of his existence for us to willingly respond to him. Are you willing to commit your life to Him? If you are, a change must be accompanied along with a committed life.
“Accept the fact that God has been revealed to us in Jesus”
Jesus Christ (God in human form) shows us God’s compassion, truth and power. He talked about his Father in heaven, it was not from the position of separation, but of very close union, unique to all humankind. Jesus said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed in him, believed in the Father. Jesus said that He and His father are one! None other made that claim. That is what sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God exists and you're looking at Him when you see Me. He performed miracles over nature...walked on top of a lake, commanding a raging storm to stop for some friends. People everywhere followed Jesus, because he constantly met their needs, doing the miraculous. He said if you do not want to believe what I'm telling you, you should at least believe in me based on the miracles you're seeing. Only a reprobate would deny the existence of God! Yes man is depraved, but God still is! He is still able to change the reprobate, the perverse, and the wretched,. I hear Paul saying; O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Christ is the answer! because God Is.
Closure: As I hurry to a close, God Is, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. In Genesis, God is Creator, To the Israelites God is bread in a starving land. In Leviticus He is Holy, “Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.” In Numbers; God is patience, for time and time again He withholds judgment and preserves the nation. In Deuteronomy; He is the faithful God, “Know therefore that the LORD thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations”. In Joshua, God is the promise keeper, and based on Joshua’s obedience Israel conquered the Promised land. Good afternoon saints of the Most High, I’ve got of get out of here! May the Lord God bless you real good! On my way home, I just got to tell you, He’s a bridge over troubled waters, He was a battle axe in the time of the battle, He was Job’s horse pawing in the valley, He was Grandma and Grandpa leaning post, He is God embodied in the flesh, that came down through 42 generations. Stop off in Bethlehem, He was born in a stable, walked the dust roads of Jerusalem, performed miracle after miracle, gave Himself up in Gethsemane, bore a cross up a hill called calvary, He died.....................
